Close by is St Neophytos monastery: founded around 1200 by the Cypriot hermit Neophytos he carved out of the mountain the Encleistra (Enclosure) which contains some of the finest Byzantine frescoes to be found anywhere in Cyprus. Inside the church at the monastery there is an interesting collection of icons and 16th century frescoes.
